Learning checklist

after studying this unit, you should be able to:

§  distinguish between different types of data, such as: primary and secondary data; discrete and continuous data; single and paired data

§  use the PCAI cycle and appreciate how the various statistical skills and techniques that into the PCAI stages of a sister Stickle investigation.

§  Gain a rough and ready, but sensible, all the you of a dataset by just scanning the data (inspecting the values by eye).

§  Check and, if justified, clean data, where there are numerical discrepancies search as outliers.

§  Summarise the dataset in terms of measures of location and spread, select suitable data summarises for the context and use them as evidence to draw a conclusion.

§  Appreciate the differences between accuracy, precision and spurious precision and use appropriate rounding numerical summarises.
