Clarifying the question
The first step in tackling a practical problem is to decide
what question you need to ask. For example consider the problem of getting to
the right place at the right time.
Here a key question is when you should set off.
The answer to this question may depend on several factors
such as what kind of transport is available in the area,
One way of tackling this problem is to use a route planning
system, known as a route planner.
You’ll see in this section how to make your own estimate the
journey time along a particular route.
As many problems, it helps to consider a simpler version
first. There are many possible route that students could take, but to see
what’s involved in calculating the time.
